Made coffee, tidied the apartment, showered. Went to work. Got their five minutes later than I wanted to, but it didn't matter. Tracy left me some giant sticky notes from last weeks meeting to type up, about 1/8 of which I couldn't read because the handwriting was possibly Sanskrit. And now I'm blogging until she gets back from the "emergency meeting" and gives me another task to do. I know I haven't worked much, but I'm hoping to get out early today. There's no AC in the building, we're on the top floor, and I decided to where long pants and a polo today b/c it's usually 4 degrees. So now I'm sweating. Also PMSing so I'm on the edge of bursting into tears. It's really sad, actually, so much so that it's funny-- which makes me feel better, I suppose.
I have two weeks worth of "7 Songs" to do, b/c I'm lame. Here's July 6, 2008 and I'll do last Sunday (July 13) when I get home tonight.
- Keep Off the Lawn// Aesop Rock-- I always skipped this one and went straight to "None Shall Pass" on this album. The intro is just too long and it annoys me. But then I was spacing out and it played and I realized how great it is. I just love the, "You look- you look- you look-you look- you look- you look-- you look like you've seen a ghost." He's got good beats, does Aesop.
- Speed Laws// Mos Def-- A man with rhythm and a broad mind. Plus an excellent production quality and sick rhymes. I highly recommend this song. "Take a breath, take ten paces back".
- How to Quit// Sam Phillips-- Because sometimes, you must chill, and if you do so, Sam is your girl. First started listening to her because of Gilmore Girls. She's got a very cool, folksy, Suzanne Vegas sort of thing going.
- Boys Don't Cry//Grant-Lee Phillips-- The husband after the wife. I was going to put "Smile" on here, but I heard this Cure cover the other day and loved it. So it's here instead. It's a pretty good cover, although I have to say I like the Reel Big Fish version even better. Still-- not bad.
- Noah's Ark// Coco Rosie-- Beautiful and amazing rock. Sometimes very slow and chill and sometimes very violent, which is why I like them (they're sisters, btw). Found them through Pandora. Lord love Pandora.
- Elevator Love Letter//Stars-- One of my favorite songs right now. Just entirely gorgeous, and a sentiment a lot of people feel, although it's totally twisted. Still-- the music is wonderful, and their voices perfect. I'm thinking of driving to Philly in August to see their show at the Trocadero. But that sort of depends on the birthday funding I get at the end of the month, if any. Need to get my car fixed first.
- Scar Tissue// Red Hot Chili Peppers: Sometimes I forget how good they were/are. A lot of people went crazy over the last album, which I was kind of underwhelmed by, but I grew up listening to the Chili Peppers, and I still love this song and attach to good memories of driving around with my dad. Listened to it on the way to work this morning, and even though I was in a terrible mood, it helped.
So there's that. The rest later on tonight. Having dinner with Mike, which will be nice after not seeing him for so long. I pray it will lack awkwardness and be full of relaxation and fun, which I think I'm going to need after today. Sigh.
Anyway--
Cheers.
H.
