No. 42: the trapeze act was wonderful

There are times when things in life, en general, are going pretty well. But then one is bitten in the ankle by sudden feelings that everything is horrendous and crawling in a hole to sleep for a while is a pretty good idea. One just snuck up on me.

Guess that's what I get for watching the end of In Good Company by myself. Stupid suck ending. Yes, okay, Topher learns a great deal and gets a long distance father figure, Dennis has his new baby and two beautiful daughters and fantastic "fox-hole" worthy wife. But here's my beef: much like Prime and The Break-Up (and in a different though equally unsatisfying vein, Constantine), Scarlett and Topher DON'T end up together!

What is WITH this?! We had a great stream of movies going: Garden State, Royal Tennenbaums, The Notebook, stretching back even unto LadyHawke with Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. And now no one is ending up together and instead movies end in a really beautiful and sad indie songs. In Good Compnay ends with Topher jogging down a beach in LA. WTDamnation?! This is why I stick to action flicks. In the Godfather III, no one cares that Garcia and Coppola don't end up together b/c of the gorgeous cinematic imagery and fitting end of the trilogy after a bloody gun battle and some fabulous acting. Plus Al Pacino's in it. I love Sam Bean, I love Iron & Wine, but honest to God, that just doesn't clench it for me. I just end up weepy and a little pissed that I'm never getting those two hours back.

Blah. Went and saw 1950s film noir with a guy who lives across the hall last night. THERE was quality footage. Half cheese, half incredible, it inspired Bonnie and Clyde and ends with the "hero and heroine" killing each other. There endeth the lesson. It was fitting. They still died together, and you felt it was appropriate b/c they'd both done so much either evil or stupidity.

In any event... I'm ready for classes to start and to start having something to write and read and occupy my time. The end of this month would be nice too. I'm ready for a new season.
